Diversification and Expansion
Shwe Than Lwin Group’s journey began with humble beginnings in the tire and automotive trading sector. It was a time when Myanmar’s economy was still in its infancy, and the need for robust trade and industry was paramount. Despite initial setbacks, the founder’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of a thriving car import business, which laid the foundation for the company’s future growth.
Infrastructure and Education
As Myanmar’s economic landscape evolved, so did the Shwe Than Lwin Group. The company diversified into various sectors, responding to the nation’s growing needs. From trading cars and heavy equipment to engaging in large-scale construction projects, the Group continuously adapted and expanded its portfolio. Notable projects included the construction of critical infrastructure such as airports and highways, which were essential for connecting people and fostering economic activity.
Education
The company’s commitment to Myanmar’s development extended beyond conventional industries. Recognising the importance of education in national growth, Shwe Than Lwin Group established Myanmar International School, contributing to the modernisation of the country’s education system. This initiative reflected the founder’s belief that a well-educated populace is crucial for sustainable development.
Social Responsibility and Media Ventures
In the wake of Cyclone Nargis in 2008, the Shwe Than Lwin Group’s dedication to social responsibility became evident. The company played a vital role in relief efforts, providing aid to affected regions and recognizing the need for improved communication systems. This experience spurred the Group’s entry into the media industry, leading to the establishment of Shwe FM and later the upgrade of MRTV-3 to the Myanmar International Channel. These ventures aimed to enhance information dissemination and entertainment, further enriching the lives of Myanmar’s citizens.
Financial Services
As Myanmar’s economy continued to grow, so did the Shwe Than Lwin Group’s ambitions. The company ventured into the banking sector, obtaining a license during President U Thein Sein’s administration and establishing a bank that has been operational for nearly seven years. This expansion into financial services marked another milestone in the Group’s journey, reflecting its commitment to supporting economic development and providing opportunities for the people of Myanmar.
Sustainability and Innovation
The Shwe Than Lwin Group remains steadfast in its mission to contribute to Myanmar’s prosperity. The new generation of leadership is focused on addressing contemporary challenges through social responsibility, sustainability, and technological advancement. Initiatives such as the electrification of public transport and de-dieselisation projects demonstrate the Group’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation.
